2015 Oscuro Dry Creek Valley Schioppettino
The 2015, grown on volcanic soils in the mountains above the Dry Creek Valley is really a throwback to a more traditional flavor profile- with notes of black fruits, Montmorency (sour pie) cherries and a note of cracked pepper. It's bright but pretty expansive in the mouth, with a restrained alcohol level, and plenty of bright acid to keep it lively.
As always, it's going to pair with a wide range of foods- from salumi/antipasto to grilled meats (chicken and pork) and casseroles- and even more interesting vegetable dishes (Tumeric Roasted Cauliflower?!). Best of all, it'll stump that friend of yours who knows "everything" about wine when you pour them a glass and ask them to tell you what it is.
