2015 Holdredge Russian River Valley Pinot Noir Selection Massale
This wine from a single vineyard planted to a “mass selection” of different clones of Pinot Noir. We started working with the place in 2002, and understood it s voice well enough by 2007 to begin bottling it as a designated wine in 2007. The mass selection of different clones lends many different voices to the wine, which is typically notable for being our last wine to really develop in bottle.
This vintage brought us the “prettiest” version of this we’ve had in many years (very reminiscent of the 2005, which we did not bottle separately but for a few cases for our own study). It pretty much encapsulates the heart of the Russian River Valley: bright pretty red fruit, high pitched aromas, good acid and a palate richness that makes it a joy to drink. We released it to our wine club a couple months ago, and it is being poured for about 900 guests at the “Keep Memory Alive” event in Las Vegas this month (a star studded gala that raises millions for neurogenic disease research). We’ve been drinking it ourselves, and can’t get over just how pretty and delicate it is. We make some pretty bold wines; this is a nice reminder that nature has many voices, and they’re all beautiful. Only 120 cases made. $50 (club price: $42.50)
