2015 Holdredge Russian River Valley Pinot Noir Indigo Dreams
In 2013, this vineyard took me in a direction that was a real departure from our wine style, to a completely unrestrained “full throttle” voice. Everyone has palate preferences, and mine were pretty far removed from that description- or at least I thought they were until I made that wine. Turned out, we really loved it, and as it also turned out, so did our customers. We sold out of the 2013 faster than any wine we have ever released. It was a real lesson to me about listening to the vineyard, and not letting my own dogma get in the way of the voice of place. All of this made it easy for me to justify the decision to have approached this vineyard the same way in 2014, which led to similar results. So, we did it again.
The 2015 Indigo Dreams picks up right where the 2014 left off. This is a wine that is powerful, massive and intense- not words I typically use to describe our wines. Better still, it is downright delicious. Black, and ripe, and just palate coating richness. Fruit was very limited in 2015, and we only bottled 50 cases. A wine with this flavor profile and richness is really perfect for winter- it just has the depth and weight that complements the season. Whether you pair it with food or just enjoy it by the glass, it’s a perfect wine for this time of year. This is a wine meant for enjoying now, and without a lot of hoopla. You could hold this for a few years, but I have no idea why you wouldn’t just enjoy it now- it’s just really yummy.
